Why Choose Solar-HI Maui?
Know Who You're Hiring. Know What You're Getting.
Choosing a solar company is about more than comparing panels and equipment.
You should know who will be involved in your project, how your system is being designed, what you’re paying for, and why certain options are being recommended.
Transparent, Line-Item Pricing. We don’t think “trust us” is a good enough answer when you’re making a major investment in your home. Every proposal breaks down equipment, labor, and options separately, so you can see exactly what’s driving the price and where you have room to adjust it. We don’t compete by claiming to be the cheapest — we focus on making sure you understand exactly what you’re paying for and why.

Transparent, Line-Item Pricing
We don't think one unexplained project total is enough when you're making a long-term investment in your home. Our proposals break pricing down so you can understand what's included and how changes to equipment, battery storage, system size, or other project needs affect the total.
We're not going to promise to be the cheapest solar company on Maui. We'd rather make sure you understand what you're buying.
Work Directly With the Owner
Damon Glastetter is personally involved in every Solar-HI project.
He's been installing solar in Hawaii since 2006 and founded Jackson Electric, LLC in 2012.
That means the person helping you understand your options is directly connected to the work being done on your home.
Custom System Design, Multiple Brands
We don’t start with a predetermined package.
Every system is designed around your roof, household energy use, goals, budget, and existing equipment.
We work across multiple solar and battery platforms, including Franklin, Tesla, Enphase, Sol-Ark, and SIG Energy, which gives us flexibility when evaluating what fits your project.
The goal is simple: the equipment should fit your home, not the other way around.
Local, Relationship-Driven Service
Solar-HI Maui is based in Kihei and focused on Maui homeowners.
We've intentionally stayed a smaller, relationship-driven operation built around direct communication and local accountability.
A large part of our business comes from referrals, repeat customers, and word of mouth rather than aggressive sales tactics.
That local reputation is backed by consistent five-star Google reviews from Maui homeowners.
Straightforward Financing Guidance
Financing can make a solar proposal look simpler than it really is.
We’ll help you compare cash pricing, traditional financing, and Hawaiʻi’s GEM$ program so you can understand the total cost of the system, not just the advertised monthly payment.
Solar-HI Maui is an approved contractor for Hawaiʻi’s GEM$ program. For eligible homeowners, GEM$ provides another way to finance a solar system through the electric bill.
One important difference is that Solar-HI does not add a contractor financing fee to the project for using GEM$. That allows us to keep the project pricing transparent instead of increasing the system cost to cover a financing-related contractor fee.
We’ll explain how each option works so you can compare the costs clearly and decide what makes sense for your home.
An Alternative to the National Sales Model
Solar-HI isn't built around door-to-door sales, call centers, or pushing one standard package.
Our approach is more direct:
- Talk with someone who understands the work
- See how your project is priced
- Understand why equipment is being recommended
- Ask questions without pressure
- Make the decision when you're comfortable with the answer
We'd rather earn your business with clarity than a sales script.
Questions to Ask a Maui Solar Installer
If you're wondering what questions to ask a solar company before hiring one on Maui, start here — these also show what to look for in a Maui solar installer, whoever you end up choosing. Before you sign anything with any solar company, it's worth asking a few direct questions:
- How is the pricing broken down, and can you see the cost of each component?
- Who actually shows up to do the installation — the person you talked to, or a separate crew?
- What equipment options do they offer, and why that brand over another?
- How does their financing actually compare — cash, loan, lease, or GEM$ — once you look at the total cost?
- And how long have they actually been doing this work on Maui specifically?
We're glad to answer all of these for ourselves, and we think you should ask them of anyone you're considering.
Questions Worth Asking Any Maui Solar Company
Before you sign a solar contract, ask:
Who will actually be involved in my project?
Find out whether the person you're talking to now will stay involved after the sale.
Can I see how the proposal is priced?
You should be able to understand what you're paying for.
Why are you recommending this equipment?
The answer should be based on your home and goals, not simply one preferred brand.
What will financing cost in total?
Compare the full cost, not just the monthly payment or advertised rate.
How long have you been installing solar in Hawaii?
Experience matters when the system will be part of your home for years.
We're comfortable answering all five.
