Custom Solar Panel Systems for Maui Homes — Designed Around Your Roof, Not a Sales Template

Maui Rooftop Solar That's Built for This Island, Not Copied from a Catalog

Every Maui home is different — different roof pitch, different orientation, different shading from trees or neighboring structures, different household energy draw. A system that works well in Kahului may be sized and laid out very differently from one in Kihei or Wailea. That's why every residential solar panel system we design starts with your specific property and your actual utility bills, not a standard package pulled from a price sheet.

Damon Glastetter has been installing residential solar panels since 2006. When you work with Solar-HI, he's involved in every job — from the initial site assessment through the final inspection. That means the person who understands your home's solar potential is the same person responsible for the installation.

How We Size and Design a System for Your Home

Sizing a residential solar system isn't guesswork. We look at your current electricity consumption, your roof's available square footage and sun exposure, your shading profile throughout the day, and what you're trying to accomplish — whether that's offsetting most of your HECO bill, pairing solar with a battery system, or charging an EV from your own roof.

From there, we build a line-item proposal that shows you exactly what equipment is going in, how the system is sized, and what each component costs. No lump-sum mystery number. The design considerations we work through for every Maui installation include:

  • Roof orientation and tilt: South- and west-facing roof planes typically capture the most usable solar hours on Maui. We map your specific layout before recommending panel placement.
  • Shading analysis: Trees, roof vents, neighboring structures, and even chimneys can affect production. We account for these before finalizing the design.
  • System size vs. utility offset: Most homeowners want to offset 80–100% of their current usage. We size accordingly, with an eye toward future loads like battery storage or EV charging.
  • Panel selection: We're not locked into a single brand or model. We match equipment to your roof, your budget, and your long-term goals.
  • Permitting and interconnection: We handle the full permitting process with Maui County and the HECO interconnection application so you're not managing paperwork on your own.

New Installation or Aging System — We Handle Both

If you're installing solar for the first time, we'll walk you through everything from system design to the day it switches on. If you have an older system — panels from the early 2000s or mid-2010s that are underperforming or failing — we can assess whether repair, partial upgrade, or full replacement makes the most sense for your situation.

Maui has a significant number of homes with solar equipment that's 15 or more years old. Some of that equipment still performs well. Some of it has degraded to the point where a replacement system would recover more in energy production than it costs to install. We'll give you an honest read on where your system stands rather than defaulting to a recommendation that benefits us more than you.

For homeowners who are already researching the upgrade or replacement path, we cover that process in detail on our solar panel replacement and system upgrades page.

What Sets a Solar-HI Installation Apart

There are a lot of solar companies working Maui right now — some local, some national, some operating primarily through door-to-door sales or lead-generation advertising. We've built our business on referrals and word of mouth, which means the quality of every installation matters more to us than the volume of leads we can close in a month.

A few things that distinguish how we work:

  • Owner involvement on every job. Damon is not a salesperson handing your project to a crew you've never met. He's on the job.
  • Multi-brand equipment approach. We're not pushing one manufacturer's product line because of a dealer agreement. We recommend what's right for your home.
  • Transparent, line-item pricing. You see exactly what you're paying for before you sign anything.
  • Over a decade of local operating history. Jackson Electric, LLC has been licensed and operating on Maui since 2012.
  • Five-star Google reviews, earned organically. Our reputation comes from completed jobs, not a review solicitation campaign.
  • GEM$ approved contractor. We're listed as an approved contractor on the Hawai'i Green Infrastructure Authority's GEM$ on-bill financing program — a financing option worth understanding if you're evaluating how to pay for your system.
